Are We Responsible For Our Own Happiness?

The term “Self-discovery” means identifying yourself and your needs. Self-discovery is very important. If you do not discover yourself, and know exactly what you want from life, you have no idea what you are living for.

A step to self-discovery is identifying your needs. Most people are clueless of what they want. To identify your needs, you first need to take a step back and think thoroughly.

Then, when you are in a relaxed state of mind, meditate and focus on your thoughts.

Ask yourself questions like what makes you happy, what makes you sad and so on. Along with the question of what, also ask why it makes you feel certain emotions. Seek a deep and strong reason behind it, not a common or general answer.

When you have identified what makes you happy and sad, you can focus on the things that make you happy and stay away from moments that make you sad.

After you have the answer to all of your questions, write them down on a piece of paper so it will be easier for you to view it whenever you need to.

We spend a lot of time looking outside of ourselves in search of happiness. We might feel the happiest when we are under the influence of alcohol or other substances. We might need our family or friends around us to feel happy or we might even think that losing weight or becoming fit is the way to achieve happiness.

Steps To Self-Discovery

Most of the time, many of us have the habit to see the wrong in others without having a close look on ourselves.

We subconsciously blame others and not ourselves. Taking a self-assessment is important in realizing and shaping us to becoming the best version of ourselves. We may also need someone who is very honest to help us in our self-assessment.

Usually the person who is able to help you is someone whom you can trust. It can be a family member or a best friend. Also, there are a number of self-assessment tests that you can take for self-discovery.

Most of the time we lack self-esteem simply because we don’t have a positive opinion about ourselves. Do you stand in front of the mirror and actually feel good and approve of what you see? ( I often do not!)

If we feel good about ourselves that means we develop confidence which boosts our self-esteem. They go hand in hand. You have the freedom to think anything you want. So why not create the habit to accept yourself for who you are with love and appreciation?

Wisdom

We all have five senses: our smell, sight, taste, hearing and touch. Yet a lot of people agree with the fact that there is a sixth sense, the little voice within. Some of us “hear” it clearly and are guided through different situation by taking the right decisions. Some of us are not aware of it and need more practice to feel and be able to “read” the signs.

Where does wisdom come from?

Is this sixth sense actually the universal intelligence we have access to?

Confidence

Our confidence mostly comes from our own self-esteem. To possess high self-esteem, we need to feel good about ourselves. In order to get to this point in life, you need to start doing things that make you happy, focusing on the future, and creating direction and purpose in your life.

You can do this by planning short and long-term goals for yourself, and as a result, you’ll notice that your confidence will also rise. Find some time, sit down and write all your goals you would like to achieve. The key is to use present tense as if they are already happening. For example, instead of “I will be a successful writer and people will love to read my stories”, simply state “I AM a successful writer and people LOVE to read my stories.” If you don’t like to set goals, just create affirmations and say them out loud or in your head as often as possible. Or stick it somewhere you can see them.
